The Deep Sea was originally made in 1959 to meet the demands of divers who wanted an alarm function to remind them of the time they have spent under water without looking at the watch. It was the first diver’s watch with an alarm function (caliber 819). The Memovox Deep Sea has since become one of JLC’s most memorable creations, as well as the Polaris.

In 2009, JLC re-introduced the famous model in two versions: The American model, “LeCoultre Special Amérique 1959”, ref. 2028440 and the European model, such as the present watch, “Jaeger-LeCoultre Classique 1959”, ref. 2028470,  both limited edition, the first to 359 pieces, the second to 959 pieces (see JLC catalog 2011/2012 on the left). The present watch is numbered 645/959.

The European model of the Tribute to Deep Sea is set with a matt black dial painted aged luminous dart indexes, a sweep center second, luminous hands and an outer minute/second division.

Like the original, The stainless case bears two crowns, one at 2 to set the alarm, and the other at 4 to wind the movement and set the time includes an inclined black bezel with luminous pointers every 15-min and radial Arabic numerals. The size 40.5 mm is slightly bigger than the original (39.3 mm.).

Under the screwed-down case back, we found a  Caliber 956, mechanical self-winding movement, with approx 45-hour power reserve. This calibre is the latest version of the famed Memovox movement with alarm function, with which the 1959 Deep Sea was equipped.

Inspired by and in tribute to the aesthetics of the emblematic Memovox Deep Sea timepiece, this neo-retro version, in a new size, reflects today’s tastes and  incorporates all the latest developments in Jaeger-LeCoultre calibers, as well as a sapphire crystal. The retail price in 2011/2012 was  11’300.- CHF. (For both US and European versions)
